Paul Allott is a grandstanding dickbrain – why the women put up with him I will never know

I thought that was crass. Who gives a f*** what you think while the game is going on?

Believe me, the ECB could hardly do better than appoint Andy Zaltzman as their life-time dictator. He also wrote an excellent piece on the ICC stitch up.

England 24/4 now. Not looking too good. Winfield, Edwards, Taylor and Sciver gone. And still 84 runs needed to win the game (from 88 balls).

From what I have seen if it wasn’t for the fantastic Katherine Brunt these Ashes would have gone long ago. Still in this 55 from 48

Run a ball now, with just 3 wickets left, and 38 runs to get. Greenway has to play a blinder here …

And she could not do it. Australia win the game, and with that the series. 10-4 ahead, with just 2 points left in the last T20 game.

It would have been mightily unfair for Australia to fail to take the Ashes home, as they’ve been the better team from what I’ve seen.

Word of advice to Sky. Have all women commentary teams for these games. Isa, Clare and Mel were very interesting to listen to, with an intimate knowledge of the women’s game. Paul Allott came blundering on with his views on whether the women should play four day cricket. If I’d be enmeshed in the women’s game for donkey’s years like Isa, Clare and Mel, I’d have been a lot less polite than Clare was.

Him and Selvey see a couple of games and think they can lay down the law. I’ll say this. Fair play to Paul Newman, who was on that CWOTV, who said he disagreed with that on Twitter as soon as Allott opened his trap.

        I notice he didn’t mention shorter pitches…..

Allott seemed to be on some sort of ‘just because they’re women doesn’t mean I’m going to be kind when they lose’ trip. It wasn’t edifying.

Jonassen confirms her place as the star of the series, dammit.
