Not sure where to post this link. Did not want to put in the Benaud thread, so plumped for here. Looks like Warne has been taking note of Grave’s suggestions, but also adds some others of his own, interesting, controversial, ridiculous, not sure what I think!?
The Mirror has corrected their error about Oval ticket prices (without drawing attention to their earlier mistake).
If the ECB had simply and politely corrected the original tweet rather than blocking it the whole schmozzle (as Richie might have said) would never have happened.
CSK: B McCullum, DR Smith, S Raina, F du Plessis, R Jadeja, MS Dhoni, DJ Bravo, R Ashwin, M Sharma, I Pandey, A Nehra
SRH: D Warner, S Dhawan, L Rahul, N Ojha, K Williamson, R Bopara, P Rasool, K Sharma, B Kumar, I Sharma, T Boult.
Dale Steyn dropped for Ravi Bopara!
Pietersen would be playing but instead of batting against Ashwin, Bravo et al he has to play at the Parks tomorrow to prove his loyalty or something. English cricket must be mad.
Meanwhile one mercenary bastard, Boult, is bowling to another mercenary bastard, McCullum. Or perhaps they don’t quite see it like that in New Zealand.
NZ players don’t get paid as much as English or Australian ones (imagine that: your centrally contracted players all get paid more than Brendan Mac). In the past this has meant playing County or League cricket in England to get close to what they are worth. An IPL stint means doing less of that drudgery for more cash. So most NZ supporters are happy the guys get to do it and the admin guys know its important that someone pays the players some cash to keep them in the game.
The new strategy seems to be – praise Pietersen in the past (so you don’t look quite so bitter) while going to any lengths to rule him out of the future.
what really gets me is this:
Strauss: “because there are too many bridges to build in too short a period of time”
This would be people who are personally insulted by KP (Flower, Cook, Strauss?) – should the priority not be England winning back the Ashes? If (big if) KP can be part of it, he should.
Strauss:
“It’s very important for English cricket to move on from the Kevin Pietersen situation. That threatens to envelop everything at the moment. The story has become more of a distraction than actually him playing or not, it’s become that big.”
Quite – it is the SITUATION, just say he is eligable….
But then Strauss disregards his own advice and looks for compelling reasons not to select KP:
Strauss:
“If you look at it from pure cricketing logic, after this Ashes is over, it’s quite hard to see a situation where Kevin Pietersen would come back into the side.”
Pure cricketing logic – if he is in form select him?????
AFTER the Ashes – ???? Why only after? What if the situation is we get stuffed by NZ before the Ashes???
Strauss:
“You’re building to the next Ashes in two and half years time and the World Cup in 2019”
Always building, is England. Again the myth of the World Cup.
And in this logic, WTF are they doing with Trott in the team?
Yep, Strauss is getting his diamond-encrusted thong in a knot here. Doesn’t want to say yes for saying no. Not the best approach for a job applicant. Good point about the building process, Boer. Like the here-and-now never matters to these chaps.
Will KP score runs this Spring? He more than likely will.
Will there be an England incumbent who doesn’t score runs? Surely.
Is KP raw or proven? Somewhat experienced, yes.
Have the ECB been screamingly wrong/out of touch on everything for a long while now? Yarp!
Get him in the damn team. IF all the ECB is worried about is cash, he’ll sell tickets. If they are worried about results, he may win us a game or games. If they are worried about harmony, there’s plenty lurking in the shadows that wants light thrown upon it. They’ve done their worst to KP and it hasn’t worked.
Put that in your pipes and smoke it, pipe-smoking MSM.
Hmmm I’m not sure England know much about building. Currently or very shortly, we need 2 openers, 2 quickies and a spinner. Not to mention a skilful captain. England don’t look remotely close to addressing those issues.
I now had time to listen to the podcast. Some unbelieveable comments.
Strauss answering (my loose transcription)
I now had time to listen to the podcast. Some unbelieveable comments.
Strauss answering (my loose transcription):
“How does England recapture the public’s imagination?”
By winning – By winning the Ashes this summer
It is important to move on from the KP situation
The the ECB and the England cricket team efforts to move on from (KP) has not worked so far,
That is because the hey have basicly lost too many matches
By winning will allow them to move forward
There is alwasy that kind of knee jerk reaction when you play poorly in a world cup
Everythin have to change, you need to look at everything
Anybody in a position of power needs to go
Now is the time for some strategic planning
The team and those around have been fighting fires nonstop for 18 months
They need to take control of the agenda
On England becoming nr 1 again, Straus wants a.o. “more confident players” !!!!
And he is still hurt by being run out by Nasser.
PS – Good on Booth to address issues like the Sky pay wall and the ECB loss of trust from the supporters.
I’m going to re name Andrew Srauss …….Bob The F***ing Builder!
If he’s not wanting to “build bridges” he is complaining there are too many bridges to build. If it’s not bridges he wants to build its building trust. Always building trust. Failing that he wants to be building for the 2019 World Cup, and then the next Ahes. Build ,Build Build. Strauss is a brickie with a suit on. He should go and work for Tarmac.
Who does he think he is Alec Guinness in Bridge over the river Kwai? Where the officer went mad, and built a lovely pristine bridge only to realise he had build it for the enemy. Just about sums up English cricket. It’s all process rather than outcome. In fact Bridge over the river Kwai is a metaphor for English cricket. We are always building the wrong thing at the wrong time
This is exactly why Strauss should not get the job. He is just another of the endless officer class Tim Nice but dims that England always put their trust in. Could we just pick the best players? And if Strauss is worried about distractions what about Cook? He is the biggest distraction going. Will he won’t he ever make a run?
I won’t believe anything I read in the Daily Mirror ever again!
Unless it’s Mike Walters.
