It looks like we’ll get lucky with the weather at Cardiff today. Good toss to win for NZ, makes the contest very even. All in all, set for the first proper contest in this year’s Champions Trophy. The tournament badly needs a good game.

Not a good game. Winning margin almost 100 runs, and only Kane Williamson batted really well for the visitors.

Really not sure about Broom in this New Zealand side, even more so batting ahead of Neesham and Anderson.

I am guessing Sri Lanka – Pakistan will be the closest game of the tourney, and that one may well be for just pride.

Thus far this tournament is outright terrible.

Yet another wicket totally unprepared for a decent game of 50 over cricket. Is this being done under ECB instructions or maybe Strauss. What a disaster this Champions Trophy is turning out to be.

For ICC competitions like the Champions Trophy, I think the ICC has ‘neutral’ groundsmen brought in to prepare the pitches. It seems like they’re told to create bland, batting-friendly pitches if possible.

166-3 for after 30. Given how England tend to destroy sides in the last 10 overs they could go rather big here.

New Zealand have bowled pretty well, so sights probably lowered somewhat. The pitch looks a mite two paced.

Remember when there was lots of complaining about modern drainage systems?

There was nearly 24 hours of solid rain before play today and 15 years ago there’s no way this match would have started on time.
