Oil

Hello.

Well, I’ve seen a lot of the stuff over the past few days, and also noted that the Sun have commissioned a Yougov poll on Kevin Pietersen. Yes, you read that correctly. This has got seriously stupid

It’s a Saturday night, I’ve been off my feet all day, and recovering from a superb do last night. Everything is concentrated on the World Cup Final and there will be a post put up for that. I will then do the totting up of all the points, and hopefully announce a winner in the next couple of days.

  • PK Troll has Australia
  • SimonH has New Zealand
  • Gambrinus has New Zealand
  • Arushatz has Australia
  • D’Arthez has Australia
  • John Owen has Australia
  • Rooto has Australia
  • Grumpy Gaz has Australia
  • Arron Wright has New Zealand
  • Steve has Australia

The rest of us, bar one (Sir Peter), had South Africa.

Of course, the heart-strings were pulled by Martin Crowe’s piece. It would take a heart of stone not to be saddened by the thoughts in there, but also the inspiration this sort of thing might have. I think most of us are old enough to remember how good Crowe was, and what it would mean to him and all that went before. I wish New Zealand good luck, and Martin Crowe any comfort he can take. Truly awe inspiring writing.

Thank you for all the comments. Cool refreshment of choice was a beer called Freedom last night. Very agreeable, and not Czech.

Enjoy the final.

    Good evening all!

Heart says New Zealand, head says Aus. I hope New Zealand win because of a number of factors. They have a fantastic captain who plays with no fear. Their opening bowlers have been sensational. Their country has completely endorsesd this World Cup. And it would be delightful to see a country that is not one of the so called big 3 win a major competition.

Against that, Australia have home advantage and I think will probably have too much in depth for the Kiwis. If New Zealand are to win I think they will have to bowl Aus out for a fairly low score. For me the Kiwi bowlers have to decimate the top 6 of Aus to have a chance. If Aus get 250+ I think they will win.

I hope nobody gets 350+ because it will turn into an anti climax.

I hope New Zealand win and Ross Taylor to come through his lean spell.

More importantly, I hope D/L has no part in the final!

So, out of curiosity I went and did a trial run on Yougov. Blimey, that’s a site for people with time on their hands.

You have to search a bit for the cricket but they eventually offer a range of players to ‘rate’. It’s a small but very varied selection, from Bradman to Charlotte Edwards via Viv Richards, but KP isn’t there. Oddly.

Readers might be interested to know that Lottie’s approval rating is 85%, Paul Collingwood’s 68% and Alastair Cook’s 38%. I couldn’t bothered to look up any more, and I suspect the samples are small anyway so it doesn’t prove much.

It wasn’t apparent how cricketers got onto the list. It could hardly be the ones who were most in the news. Perhaps someone had commissioned surveys on all of them.

Hmm. I’ve been a Yougov (I prefer Youguv, it sounds more fun) member for ages. I’ve never got round to find the stuff you have tonight. I must be missing out. I wait for them to send me something and if I can be arsed do a survey and let them credit me with points.

I’ve earned them at about the same rate you do Shell points really…

Supporting the Kiwis all the way here, though probably in my sleep mostly.

Oopsy, I found KP on Yougov now, his approval rating’s 19%. I shall add some praise and see if it makes any difference.
(yes, I am having a quiet night in)

Apparently the brewery industry in Plzen has collapsed overnight.

I said New Zealand from the get go. So I have to give my old man a bar of chocolate as they lost. Still never mind.
