After a superb chase on Tuesday, the England team look to add the points in the second game in Bristol today.
As with the first match, I won’t get to see any of it, but will be following when I can in the office. However, the game thread went down really well (judging by hits and comments – not all on the game) so have no problem sticking up another one for this series.
You may have noticed I don’t call it women’s cricket or such like. To me these are two international teams playing the sport I love. One team represents England, one Australia. End of. Just a personal thing.
We got the first wicket at last.

what nobody knows is that the groundstaff at Bristol have prepared a pretty benign pitch in order to thwart the pace of Johnson and Stark …..

Lanning and Perry looking comfortable now. 140 for2.

A fine century for Lanning, but the commentators are all agreeing the scoring is just a little too slow… 234-2 with 4 overs to go.

259/6 at end of first innings. A rather rare stumping off a wide to get Jonassen second last ball
Quick Quiz,
When was the last game where two different wicket keepers got a stumping in one innings. That can’t have happened often, but apparently it did today.
Lanning st Jones
Jonasson st Taylor

Australia seemed to lose their way during the last 10 overs – could have got 300 – however England fought back well and took wickets at good times to slow the scoring down. An achievable target with the onus on a good start if Lottie isn’t too tired – although she’ll never be as tired as Cook …….
What is it with Sarah Taylor and her missed chances – repeated her ‘effort’ of the previous match by missing a very simple stumping chance – she seems to move through her action and breaking the stumps without having the ball in her hands …..doh!??
(talking about Taylor – what chance Giles Clarke getting a hug from KP??)
Hope it’s a good reply

It’s also noticeable that the Aus commentators call their team ‘the Southern Stars’ all the time, which avoids saying ‘the women’s team’ or ‘the Australian women’. England need a good name.

Mitchell Starc is a surprise guest in the commentary box, which is nice. Unfortunately he’s a man of few words.

England just falling away a bit here. Think it will be a real challenge to catch up from here.

178/6 after 38 overs. Sciver and Brunt at the crease. You’d think Australia are favorites now going into the last 12 overs, and the RRR almost 7. But, it is certainly not impossible.
And just as I was about to post that, Sciver goes …, and that is probably the game.
